Military Problems

Military Problems

There were many problems with the military. One of these
problems was that there were low funds for the army. The
government spent money for the military for weapons and defense.
Soldiers were promised higher cash rewards for joining the army,
as a way to get more people to enlist in the army. The soldiers
now fought for money, and there was a decline in patriotism and
loyalty among soldiers. However, the pay was low and the money
for weapons was not enough. As a result, the quality of the
weapons and armor was poor. This lowered the morale of the soldiers in the Roman Army.

Another problem was recruitment. The Roman Empire was a vast nation, which

was recently split into two parts, the Western and Eastern parts. There was a
decrease in population in the Western half, and the army was limited across the
vast empire. Another recruitment problem was that Christians were unwilling to
fight. Most of the people in the Empire were Christians, because Christianity was
the official religion of the Empire.
